Class was hilarious! Oh my gosh. I didn't even have icecream and I was hyper. (Thanks for the water Chelsea!) I did enjoy reading "Paul's Case" I loved the way the author writes. I'm sure it's partly the time period, but the phrasing is beautiful. I loved when she talked about the music. Ok now i'm really excited about the 31st. Who should I be...hmmm.

Of cupcakes and other musings

I had a lot of fun in class today which is totally not allowed in school, but hey we broke the rules today. Skittles make my hyper what can I say. Everyone did awesome presenting the stories. Some of the symbolism went right over my head when I read it, but I guess I should do my reading at 12 in the afternoon instead of the morning. Yes I'm a night owl I admit it! I'm also super excited about the "come dressed up as your favorite literary character" day on the 31st. I'm such a theater geek and so any acting or dressing up is a 100 + bonus to my day. Plus I believe there will be food...like cupcakes. It would be funny if a lot of people brought cupcakes. Than Dr. A-C will have to demonstrate how to stick the entire thing in one's mouth. Oh yes! There will have to be cupcakes.

Ok so I still have no idea what i'm going to write about. I've only ever had to write analysis papers so this should be interesting. I'm very excited. I'm going to join the English Honor Society soon yay!!

Yes!

Ok i'm so happy we could talk about the entire book today! I've been waiting soooo long! I think we talked about pretty much everything except for the whole religious aspect. Remember? Lou went to church? Well that was quite interesting. I believe it brought up the whole should he take the treatment, because that was the way God originally made him. That's a good question. I don't really know how to fully answer it right now.

Class was pretty fun today. This always the most relaxing class that I have during the week. I don't have to take a ton of notes like I do in my government class so that's really nice (my hand feels like it's going to fall off!) and I don't have to listen to someone lecture on and on about their personal lives in another class i'm in. Thanks Dr. AC!

I'm really actually looking forward to writing this paper. I'll probably use Speed of Dark, because there is so much material I can take from it to use as evidence. (Sounds like i'm researching a murder trial or something)

Star Dust, Anasi Boys, oh my!

I just finished reading Star Dust (again only a day of reading that! Curse my speed reading problem!) and it was really good. Neil Gaiman's usage of language and irony really made me smile. I love how he describes things! I enjoyed the movie version more however. I'm looking forward to reading Anasi boys now. I'm going to have to go back through Speed of Dark, though. I need to refresh my memory.

After Thoughts

I've been thinking about Speed of Dark some more and I'm still mulling over the language that the author uses. I love how she expresses the thoughts and feelings of the autistic man. I read the Ms. Moon has a son who is autistic and I really feel for her. I'll never know the difficulties that come with that kind of disability. *SPOILER Alert!
SPOILER Alert!*

I was really thinking about his choice about whether to stay like he was or go into the unknown and perhaps come out better or potentially worse from the treatment. That book really spawned (Love that word) a lot of musing on my part so that's great!

Also it's National Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week (mouthfull) show some support for people with invisible chronic illnesses by visiting this site: www.invisibleillness.com

These illnesses can range from cancer to dysautonomia (Which is what I have) so go buy some t-shirts and bumper stickers and spread the word! (or just visit the site!)

Have a great day!!

Whew!!

I'm so glad i'm done with leading the discussion for Interpreter of Maladies. I'm rethinking the whole public speaking/running for president thing, haha just kidding! I am glad that people conversed with me a little bit about the story, so that was nice. I wrangled a copy of Speed of Dark and someone at the CCCC Bookstore said it was really depressing so i'm already looking forward to reading it...woohoo. Everyone else who led discussions today did a great job!!
